Where the Heck is Croatia?

Croatia was part of the former Republic of Yugoslavia.  The country became independent after the fall of communism and breakup of Yugoslavia a little more than 20 years ago.  The war in Croatia was pretty brief compared to what happened in neighboring Bosnia.  Below is a map showing where Croatia lies on the Adriatic across from Italy and a map of the Istrian peninsula, the northwest corner of the country.
