Last night Tammy, Ben and I went out for a late dinner. We found a little unassuming place named Restaran Mon Ami. There were just a few other folks in the place when we arrived a little before 9pm.
We were greeted by restaranteur Mario Mestrovic, who took very good care of us for the evening. We started with a glass of champagne. Zivjeli!! (Cheers). The meals were excellent. Ben had spinach pasta with shrimp scampi, Tammy had pasta with shrimp and smoked salmon, and I had shrimp with risotto. All of the items were fresh and very tasty. I also had a glass of pinot blanc with my meal.
As we finished our meal, we had a nice conversation with Mario and he recommended a seafood restaurant in Opatija, close to where we will be staying the rest of the week. We told him we planned to visit some wineries later in the week. He asked "which ones?" And I replied Trapan Wine Station in Sisan. He smiled and said, "l will call Bruno Trapan, the winemaker, and tell him you are coming". And he did. Pulled his cell phone out and called him while standing at our table. This was at about 10:15pm. When he finished he gave me Bruno's cell number and told me to call him in the morning to arrange a wine tasting appointment at the winery.
So, I called Bruno today and set us up for a wine tasting experience on Friday afternoon! Mario is now "mon ami".
